Wyze cam with RSTP

Wyze camera is really nice addition for DIY’ers surveillance system because of its price and its feature. The only annoying thing is you would need the Wyze app to configure the camera. The good thing is this is only done setting it up at the beginning.

I have been piloting the ShinobiCCTV to replace my Windows 10 VM with Reolink desktop client as my NVR. I recently changed my ShinobiCCTV VM into the official Docker container. The Docker container seems to be more stable for me, so for now, I am keeping the container. For a couple of weeks now, I have been trying to figure out why the Wyze keep getting disconnected from the Shinobi. I still have no idea why.

The Wyze cam v2 RSTP url is

rtsp://<username>:<password>@<ip-address>:80/live

I changed the port from 80 to 554 which is the default port for RSTP, so far it is working and the connection seems to be stable. The new RSTP url would be this

rtsp://<username>:<password>@<ip-address>:554/live

Since I changed the port, it seems to be connecting much better now. If this is the fixed, why the hell Wyze provided the port 80 in the first place?

Anyways, I just want to share this. Cheers!
