Since I got the Canon printer back in 2016, it was a huge struggle for me to use it. From regular printing and double-sided prints and it is always a pain in the neck. Not to mention scanning. Scanning document is just plain hell with Canon printer. Since I don’t print very often, I’ve never bothered looking for a new printer. However, recently, I need to print some documents, and encountered the same issue with my Canon printer. I have reached my limit and I decided it was time to replace this Canon printer.
I got the HP OfficeJet Pro 8035. Dude, I got to tell you. This thing worked right out of the box. There was no struggle, no-hassle installing the printer. It worked right out of the box. My Xubuntu 19.10 found the drivers right away. I can do the following:
- I can print over the network
- I can scan using the flatbed over the network
- I can scan using the document feeder over the network
- I did not install any software from HP other than what Ubuntu found automatically during the install
I use the Document Scanner as shown in the featured image of this post. The Document scanner can also be found in the Software repository. I can’t remember if it came with Xubuntu, but it is definitely in the Software center as shown in Figure 1.

Again, Linux folks especially for the new guys, get an HP printer.
Cheers!
